What is the Capital Market Insights group responsible for?

ResearchAnalysts in the Quantitative Research team and Research Consultants in theInsights Consulting team collaborate to produce original, in-

depth, advancedanalysis and insights based on capital market, economic market, capital / salesflow, and product / portfolio data.

Theseteams interact regularly with individuals at all levels of the organization,including investment management, product management, client analytics, andsales / marketing professionals.

Based on an understanding of investmentpositioning, trends, and views by FT investment professionals, as well as 3rdparty strategists, analysts and consultants develop a research agenda andcommunicate insights to business leaders to guide sales and marketingstrategy.

Analytical content recommended is included in a number of highvisibility, high impact, external communications to institutions,intermediaries, and clients to help FT clients make informed decisions moreconfidently, maintain our presence as a thought leader, and clearly articulatethe role our products play in client portfolios in different marketenvironments, for various audiences.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Quantative Investment Research Analyst?

  • Independently develop multivariate investment quantitative models to determine optimal asset allocation models for the U.
  • S. and international markets that support sell side and buy side investment decision making process.

  • Develop algorithms in R / Python / Alteryx to ensure full scalability of investment research process.
  • Independently provide high level technical, investment and econometric models to support normative, descriptive, and prescriptive financial models used to develop systematic or discretionary points of view on capital market(s) and / or support Chief Investment Officer point of view and to communicate the point of view for various audiences.
  • Mines and analyzes data from internal and external databases to drive optimization and improvement of best product opportunities algorithm
  • Codes in R / Python / Java different quantitative rules to filter out relevant buy / sell opportunities for different capital markets
  • Automates different investment processes using programming languages like R, Python, Java or Alteryx
  • Independently develops hypotheses and research ideas to inform viewpoints. Develop a point of view based on information and analysis available.
  • Independently develops custom research solutions essential to develop a viewpoint on a domain topic. Proficient in industry best practice and team policies.
  • Provides frequent coaching to junior staff on custom research activities. Contributes to the development of research practices across the department.

  • Research and analyze financial data extracted from leading financial applications to develop illustrative content for use in marketing and sales materials
  • Applications used include : Macrobond, Morningstar Direct, FactSet, Thompson Reuters, Bloomberg and financial / economic websites different invusinprogrmming anguagespothes
  • What ideal qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful?

  • Graduate degree in econometrics, financial engineering, computational finance, mathematics, or computer science.
  • 4-7 years of economic of economic of quantitative investment research experience.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets required
  • Progress in CFA Charterholder or CIPM or FRM or Computational Finance Equivalent (Programming Track, like R, Python) - required
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.
  • and their real-world advantages / drawbacks

  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.
  • and experience with applications.

  • Advanced Excel and / or Statistical Programing required
  • Knowledge of other programming languages a plus (SQL, C++, Java etc.)
  • Prior experience with BI tools preferred (e.g. Tableau, Alteryx)
  • Progress Towards CFA / CIPM / CIMA or relevant internal experience is a plus
  • Prior experience in Data Science, Consulting, Financial Analysis & Performance Appraisal, Economic & Capital Market Analysis preferred
  • Comfortable working in a global environment
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills Fluent English
