Your role in the team
Join Customer Engagement Team at Grand Parade part of William Hill and dive right into an exciting development environment building the world’s most trusted digital gambling brand.
Become an integral part of the team, thriving under Agile principles while fostering a DevOps culture.
We are building a brand-new Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Team in our Customer Engagement Channel whose mission is to provide highly available sites and services to our customers.
Our services and infrastructure need to be resilient - must be able to withstand and recover quickly when pushed to their absolute limits.
To do this we need people who will own it, give a damn, never settle, and care about continuous improvement.
You will be responsible for
Identifying opportunities to improve performance and reliability of our backend services
Working on high-volume, low-latency applications for mission-critical systems
Supporting continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and technologies and presenting these for architectural review
Collaborating with other teams across the business
Working according to development standards & best practices
Writing well designed, testable, efficient code
Translating technical and non-technical requirements as required
Driving improvements in KPI's (code quality, defects, performance, security, resiliency)
Collaborating with QA to ensure tests are aligned with the solution and complement tests written by development
What we want from you
Proven working experience in Java development (min.
BS / MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
Hands on experience in designing and developing applications using Java 8+ platforms
Object Oriented analysis and design using common design patterns
Profound insight of Java 8 and functional programming
Experience with high traffic systems and products
Understanding web applications operational aspects (scalability, monitoring, zero downtime upgrades etc.
Experience with test-driven development
Experience in developing web applications using at least one popular web framework is an asset
Very good English skills (written and spoken)
Experience in / knowledge of Agile delivery principles and practices such as Scrum or Kanban
Self-reliant, communicative, accurate
