This role will develop program materials and communications, own data coordination, act as a contact for third party tools, and assist in overall project management as well as manage day to day activities relating to Responsible Sourcing Work.

Summary - Main Purpose of the Position

As part of the Responsible Sourcing team, the Senior Analyst, Responsible Sourcing will assist in the execution of Responsible Sourcing Strategy across BD.

This role will develop program materials and communications, own data coordination, act as a contact for third party tools, and assist in overall project management as well as manage day to day activities relating to Responsible Sourcing Work.

This role will support the execution of key elements of our Responsible Sourcing Strategy, including Human Rights Due Diligence across our supply chain, Greenhouse Gas Emission reductions from our purchased goods and services, and innovation around sustainable product solutions.

This work contributes to BD’s overall Sustainability Strategy, including our participation in Race to Zero by 2050 and our efforts to better understand and mitigate supply chain risks.

As such, this role will also collaborate across BD on various cross-functional projects as necessary to advance sustainability at BD.

  • Primary Responsibilities include;
  • Program Tracking and Management Coordinate and drive accountability, schedule development, resource and other planning and the review of progress on projects
  • Supplier communication communicate directly with suppliers to engage them in various ESG related outreach effortsSchedule meetings and manage follow ups, contribute to discussion and lead presentations where necessaryDevelop large scale supplier communications about BD Environmental Social and Governance efforts to educate and engageMonitor group inbox, replying to general queries on Responsible Sourcing and escalate questions as necessary
  • Third party coordination manage regular updates with the third parties contributing various work components to the Responsible Sourcing ProgramTroubleshoot lack of forward progress and make changes with third parties as necessary to keep program on trackEvaluate effectiveness of various initiativesCreate timeline for planned efforts and monitor third party progress to completionEvaluate and advance BD’s utilization of third party tools as necessary
  • Program Material development evaluate existing assets and build a full suite of program materials for responsible sourcing geared to providing resources and best practice to suppliers to support their sustainability efforts
  • Data Management and Analysis coordinate internally with stakeholders to ensure the data on file is correct, and help to prepare data for regular updates into the system, identification of data gaps, data analysis.
  • develop data analysis around the data received from third party tools to create reports, increase utilization of data within Procurement teams, and update the organization on learnings

    Primary Responsibilities and Dutie s

    Responsibilities :

    50% Project Management :

  • Project manage various third party tools and the projects utilizing them;
  • Act as main point of contact for the third party (EcoVadis, Verisk Maplecroft, etc), plan rollout of program components, develop communication materials (internal and external),
  • Coordinate data with internal teams for rollout, assess results and communicate them internally,
  • Understand key compliance requirements and drive engagement to meet them
  • 10% Program Management - develop program plan for responsible sourcing program, covering all six pillars of work, which includes :

  • project coordination, timeline tracking, status updates and goal setting,
  • tracking of key topics externally and adjusting plans as new issues arise,
  • collaboration with key teams internally to gain buy in and understand changing needs
  • 20% Supplier Capacity Building :

  • Plan trainings and develop materials to expand supplier’s awareness of sustainability efforts.
  • Train various teams internally so they are aware of the responsible sourcing work and can speak to them with suppliers.
  • Establish trainings externally for suppliers, where appropriate, around topics like emissions reductions and human rights.
  • Aid in direct supplier engagement on specific issues.
  • Help to identify best-practice suppliers and create case studies to share.
  • Develop a Supplier toolkit and other reference materials for suppliers.
  • 20% Data Analysis and Coordination;
  • Supplier data - Review and prioritize the filling of gaps in data.
  • Program data evaluate results of third party risk data and prioritize suppliers for review based on this assessment
  • Program data review desktop audit results, prepare and present monthly analysis of results for Operating Committee, draft engagement plans for low performing suppliers, work with businesses and segments to understand their performance and engagement
  • Scope of Responsibility :

    Strategic Orientation :

    This role will assist the Sr Manager, Responsible Sourcing in implementing strategy for Responsible Sourcing. This includes both short term goals (yearly achievements) as well as executing strategy and plan to meet long term (2030 and 2050) sustainability goals and also includes both internal and external goals.

  • This role will have the opportunity to aid in the supporting the execution of strategy that guides the entire company’s responsible sourcing efforts and touches key parts of the company;
  • including but not limited to long term Human Rights Due Diligence in the Supply Chain which impacts Procurement, R&D, Sustainability, Business Segments and various other teams within BD.

    Sphere of Influence :

    This role is responsible for coordinating with many different functions and businesses across BD. The person in this role will help to set targets across the company that tie into Responsible Sourcing Strategy, and will meet regularly with other functions to track progress against these targets as well as to collaborate on various projects.

    As a representative of Responsible Sourcing, this role will also act as an ambassador; educating, connecting with interested parties, identifying key advocates to further the work we do.

    This role will report to Sr Manager, Responsible Sourcing, who reports to the Director of Procurement Effectiveness.

    Examples of internal (BD) contacts :

    Other associates on the wider Responsible Sourcing team, including Risk and Supplier Diversity teams, will be main points of contact.

    This role will also collaborate with Analysts, Managers and Directors from other functions including Sustainability, Business Segments, Communications, R&D.

    Within Procurement this role will coordinate with Category Directors / Managers for both Direct and Indirect categories, Business Facing teams, Procurement Leadership centrally and regionally, functional business partners,

    Examples of external (outside of BD) contacts :

    Third party tools (Verisk Maplecroft, EcoVadis, CDP) and working groups (BSR Human Rights Working Group, PSCI, etc).

  • This role is accountable for engagement with third party tools that will allow us to meet key requirements in human rights and achieve external sustainability goals.
  • This role is accountable for timely and accurate reporting progress towards above goals that will be used to set business strategy.
  • This role is responsible for updates to key governance documents, including Expectations for Suppliers, that govern what we expect from all BD suppliers around ESG topics
  • Financial Impact : Describe the degree to which the position has an impact on those things that drive revenue generation and profitability and provide examples .

    By helping to drive our Responsible Sourcing program to be best in class, this role will aid BD in demonstrating leadership in ESG to BD customers who are increasingly making decisions based on environmental and social performance.

  • Project / program management processes, tools and best practices
  • Data tracking, manipulation, analysis and reporting
  • Basic ESG (environmental, social, governance) topics and how they apply to large businesses, deeper interest and understanding in specific topics such as GHG emissions, Human Rights Due Diligence a plus
  • Procurement principles and practices
  • Broad business knowledge and acumen

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and corrective actions
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence without direct authority
  • Proficiency in excel and reporting tools
  • Proficiency in project and program management tools (MS Office, MS Project, MS SharePoint, etc.), including experience managing large data sets in Excel, experience with ERP systems desired.
  • Highly organized and able to track shifting priorities
  • Education / Degree

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Certification(s) in supply chain, procurement, project management or equivalent is considered a plus.
  • Experience

  • A minimum of 1-3 years work experience; experience in a large multinational company preferred
