Your responsibilities

The Ride Engineer is a part of the ride team responsible for tuning the dampers / chassis system on a car in cooperation with the customer and internal team.

You will take part in vehicle chassis tuning sessions on the ride tracks, and set up and verify the ride and handling of prototype cars and serial production cars.

You will also support the customer project team in the implementation of damping systems and hydraulic components for suspension systems.

You will be incorporated in projects / project teams and act as the link between the valving team, the ride work team, and the project team.

In this role you will :

  • Assist in root cause analysis (G8D), continuous improvement projects, and product validation in case of technical issues and failures during life tests,
  • Lead the ride work at the customer to apply Tenneco’s technology to realize the ride requirements at the customer or assists the ride work team with your technical expertise regarding the new valving system,
  • This means that you should be present during the ride work at the customer location as required by the project(s) that you will be working on and includes that you :
  • define the Tuning matrix together with the Valving Team and verify if the required damping range can be met with the selected design,
  • represent Tenneco at the customer before, during, and after the ride work.
  • are aware of the project history and the allowed tuning range for the related products in order to find the best compromise for comfort, handling, and NVH,
  • have sufficient product or system knowledge in order to understand and explain the new valving and / or new technology to the ride work team and / or the customer,
  • have knowledge of the ride and handling behavior of a car in order to be able to assist in defining the next tuning steps on the vehicle : you translate the requested changes in vehicle behavior attributes into a setting for the shock / system,
  • can assess vehicle behavior by driving / riding in the vehicle and assist the customer in defining the necessary tuning steps,
  • give structured and clear reporting to Tenneco with the feedback from the customer, resulting in design proposals, findings, remarks, and recommendations,
  • define and drive the need for new valving systems to come up to the customer requirements.
  • Our requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical engineering,
  • 3 years of experience (previous automotive experience is an asset),
  • Driver’s license,
  • Feels of vehicle Ride & Handling,
  • Good command of English (spoken & written),
  • Strong background in mechanical design and / or hydraulics,
  • Willingness to travel frequently (Germany, Belgium, Spain),
  • Strong communication skills,
  • Good knowledge of MS Excel,
  • A thorough understanding of the function of a shock absorber and vehicle suspension systems,
  • Knowledge of the operation of testing machines is an asset,
  • Ability to function in an international team environment,
  • Customer orientation.

  • Automotive and Motorsports interest,
  • Experience in the tuning of vehicle suspension systems,
  • Rally / Motor Race experience.

  • The number of ride work weeks is estimated to range up to a maximum of 25 per year; within the project and on customer demand it might be necessary to work during the weekend at the location (not more than 5 / year).
