In our department within Daimler Trucks North America, Product Validation Engineering is responsible for all vehicle, system and component level validation work, to assure our products are industry leaders in Fuel Economy and Reliability, supporting the lowest Total Cost of Ownership objectives for our customers.
During the course of last several years, DTNA had invested heavily into Reliability & Quality programs, including the Reliability Growth (RG) operation, to assure we not only meet but exceed customer's demands for the highest reliability, the lowest downtime, and the minimal repair costs.
We are looking for a qualified engineering manager, familiar and experienced in the areas of automotive reliability testing program, who can join the already established team and lead and strengthen the existing operation, while constantly looking for ways to improve our products and processes.

RELIABILITY PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & FAILURE ELIMINATION :
Establish major project reliability targets based on sample size, test type and routes, acceleration factor, etc. as well as perform reliability analysis on vehicle, system and at component levels.
Work closely with DTNA’s Quality and Service departments to leverage reliability data from the field and also to assure correlation with internal reliability testing.
Initiate and maintain failure elimination process, by utilizing tools such as 8D, Shainin, FMEA, DOE, etc. to assure reliability targets are achieved.
Facilitate weekly cross functional meetings with all stake holders during which issue closures and assignments take place per agreed standardized processes.
Track and regularly report the performance of major projects toward their respective targets in terms of fault rate and mileage accumulation.
Prepare and monitor progress toward yearly departmental reliability targets.
Have the technical credibility and ability to report and verbally communicate progress to higher level management about the status of a given project during the regularly scheduled RG and Quality meetings.
Perform overall vehicle and manpower resource planning.
Establish and oversee the annual RG operation budget, taking in to account all the projects priorities, including the ones requested by powertrain colleagues.
Quarterly reconcile the operational expenses and initiate the necessary purchase orders.
Interface with colleagues from Detroit Powertrain, MB Trucks Europe and Fuso from Japan and coordinate global reliability targets for common projects.
SUPERVISION & OVERSIGHT OF RG VEHICLE TEST PLANS :
Ensure all vehicles are up to date and documented properly prior to start of the testing, and during the execution of the test plans.
Provide oversight to the RG shop operation and technician staff including DTNA and Detroit Professional Services vendors.
Coordinate vehicle scheduling and service priorities taking input from all stake holders including the driver management team.
Assure accurate and timely documentation of all failures, updates, repairs, and maintenance and driver comments.
Facilitate timely and accurate parts availability to prevent delays.
Monitor and assure vehicle availability and issue captures are within the established targets.
Ensure all vehicles are running safely per agreed Standard Test Plans and all the corporate safety expectations are followed within the RG shop including the parts area.
Coordinate with RG stakeholders to efficiently plan Product Validation Requests (PVR), powertrain, software and other vehicle related updates.
Communicate with other engineering and quality departments about the validation outcome.
CROSS DEPARTMENTAL TASKS & COMMUNICATION :
Work closely with Product Engineering, Service, Quality and Global test engineering teams, as well as with other Product Validation Engineering departments to assure most effective test procedures are adopted.
Represent the department for major projects as part of the system development teams.
Have the technical credibility, and ability to lead technical task force(s) and be able to effectively report and verbally communicate progress to higher level management.
Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve product, process efficiency, and employee effectiveness & satisfaction.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university / college with 8+ years of related experience required
At least 2 years of group leader, supervisory, or project lead experience required

Advanced degree or course work, and / or minimum 4 years of hands on experience in the fields of Automotive Reliability testing is required.
Demonstrated structured problem solving skills by utilizing Shainin, 8-Step, or similar tools are required.
Design or testing experience with heavy duty vehicle cab, chassis, mechatronics and powertrain systems is highly desired.
Proven history in leading technical teams and mentoring others in identifying the root cause of complex engineering problems, as well as ability to teach others relevant engineering concepts and tools are required.
Ability to oversee multiple projects as well as to communicate technical information to medium-sized audiences and / or to senior management is required.
Past experience in managing and / or overseeing automotive design teams and / or testing labs and related activities, such as scheduling, managing and assigning work to staff, contract negotiations with the supplier, etc. is highly desired.
Design or Testing experience with heavy duty (class 6 to 8) vehicle cab, chassis and mechatronics systems is highly desired.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills & technical command of the English language & ability to clearly articulate thoughts are a must.
Experience with LEAN methodology, workload planning tools and visual management techniques to track group progress and to encourage communication are required.
Knowledge of Automobile manufacturing & assembly plant processes, and DTNA engineering systems is a plus.
Familiarity with Reliasoft Weibull reliability analysis tool, Daimler’s ZEUS & FinAS failure documentation and resolution programs, SAS Field Warranty Analysis and FRACAS failure reporting systems is highly desired.
