Job Summary :
Project manager is responsible for delivering IT projects to schedule, budget and quality. The role requires mastery technical knowledge of project management inter-
related process stages i.e. initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control and close, and the supporting processes e.g. scope, cost, time, issue, risk, resource, communication, stakeholder management.
Proficiency in related processes such as portfolio management, program management, methods and tools and quality assurance is also required.
Project manager must have excellent stakeholder relationship management skills to successfully lead and manage the project team and project stakeholders, and have expertise recognized and requested by customers.
Essential Functions of the Job :
Successfullyexecute the project to agreed schedule, budget and scope
Perform the relevantproject management processes - i.e. initiate, plan, execute, monitor andcontrol and close, and the supporting processes e.
g. scope, cost, time, issue,risk, resource, communication, stakeholder management
Plan theproject based on a defined need results in detailed scope / budget / schedulebaseline
Monitor andcontrol the work to ensure that the project remains on track and in control
Plan for andmanage change
Reports onvariances to the approved project baseline
Close theproject to formalize acceptance of the project result and release projectresources
Interface andcommunicate with project team, management and stakeholders
Manage projectwork and resources to enable successful and timely completion of the project
Performs gatereviews and quality assurance reviews with all aspects of IT organization andbusiness sponsors
Delivery ofprojects aligned to overall business and technology strategies andarchitectures
Work withindefined governance processes
Manageexternal contracts and suppliers where required
Supportdevelopment of business cases with the customer team including leading on thesolutions estimate
Lead thedevelopment of the project charter and scope, and ensure delivery of thesolution to schedule, budget and scope
Developobjectives, phasing and content of the project to deliver on the business casebenefits, budget and timescales
Manage to theobjectives and plan by thorough risk, issue and change management across bothbusiness and IT parts of the project
Ensures that quality project standards are met as prescribed by IT Services through the effective implementation or use of approved processes, methodologies and deliverables
Analytical / Decision Making Responsibilities :
Monitors andmanages project baseline to ensure activities are occurring as planned - scope,budget and schedule manages variances
Proactivelyidentify risks and issues on projects - leading team to develop risk managementand issues management plans
Identifiespotential points of contention for missed deliverables; creates and implementsstrategy to mitigate shortfalls in timeline and budget
selects and implements mostappropriate solution
Develop and manageplans to address project strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
Ability tobalance both the "science" of how to perform project management andthe "art" of project management, which is learned through experienceand skill training / application
Analyticalskills and problem solving skills needed to manage multiple factors on aproject simultaneously
Demonstrate business analytics to manage and meet sponsor and customer needs
Knowledge andSkills Requirements :
Experience ofmanaging Software Development IT projects with personal accountability for delivering to time andcost for large, complex projects typically up to $5m in value and 12 to 18months in duration
Mastery in projectmanagement methodologies, tools and templates (includes project planning, scheduledevelopment, scope management and cost management)
Track recordof customer focus, based on openness, trust, and delivering on promises
Extensive experienceof delivery that includes the use of supplier and off-shore resources
Experienced inmanaging to contract; ensuring clients and suppliers alike perform inaccordance with original agreement
Experienceacross packaged and bespoke systems and infrastructure, ideally on aninternational basis
Managementskills to manage one or more large, complex projects simultaneously
IT backgroundwith experience across the systems development life cycle with experience inall project phases plan, initiate, elaborate, design, build, test, implement.
Knowledge anduse of industry-standard project methods, tools and techniques e.g. RAIDS,budget, communication
Strong teamworking skills across matrixed client, supplier and geographically dispersedvirtual teams
Strongcommunication and interpersonal skills (includes negotiation)
Excellentwritten and verbal communication skills must be able to communicate fluentlyin English both verbally and in writing
Leader in the use of IT methodologies, processes and standards for project management
Supervision Responsibilities :
Directsupervision provided by an experienced Program Leader / Manager; frequency on aweekly or as needed basis
Projectmanager is expected to act independently to deliver project to schedule, budgetand scope; support provided as required and requested, and is self-driven andmotivated
assigns responsibility to members; monitorsprogress
Project manager coaches, mentors and supports less experienced project managers as well as other project resources as needed
Other Requirements :
Extended andunsociable hours may be required to meet target schedule dates
Due to the nature of the Global organization, national and / or international travel may be required
A degree inComputer Science or in a related discipline; or equivalent work experience
One or moreprofessional certificates to supplement formal education / experience in supportof Project Management
7 to 10 yearsin a corporate IT environment
5 to 10 yearsexperience in project management
Other relevantexperience in a related technical field (application development,deployment / implementation and infrastructure)
Workexperience in a professional services industry, preferred
Certification Requirements :
Projectmanagement certification is preferred (PMI / CAPM or PMP, PRINCE2)
Familiarity with ITIL v2 or 3 would be advantageous
