For this role you can be based anywhere in Poland.

As a Staff Engineer of Automation , you'll be focused on helping OLX on its exciting journey of taking our product capabilities and technology to the next level, with one of the strong pillars of this transformation being around increasing the rate of automation during all steps of the product life-cycle : 1) discovery, 2) product development, 3) deployment and 4) measurement, with the clear purpose of shortening the feedback loop between those steps to increase the speed of learning and our ability to discard faulty ideas as fast as possible.

You will work across multiples tribes to help strategising our approach to continuous delivery on many areas, design and be part of building such systems and tools and be a reference point for all packs to help them reduce metrics aiming to increase the speed of actions though automation, such as the time to experiment and lead to time for change .

You will also work closely with many other staff engineering peers to ensure that the architecture of our systems and frontend applications are built with a high rate of automation in mind and be the voice of all the investment in the scope of automation of development, testing and deployment in many multi-party initiatives and projects.

What you will be doing :

  • Design the architecture of our continuous delivery pipelines, with long term thinking and a pragmatic approach.
  • Help packs to ensure all products artefacts are behind structured version control systems
  • Enable packs to ensure all deployments are automated and do not require manual intervention
  • Enable packs to largely increase code-checks to discover serious regressions, with tests running continuously throughout the development process
  • Hands-on development of proof of concepts and evaluation of new technologies
  • Implement technical strategic decisions in cross functional teams and lead initiatives to improve our development process and increase the rate of automation (specially to ensure packs are able to increase the speed of action but also as a guarantee to ensure the delivery of high quality and reliable products)
  • Provide technical guidance to developers and raise the bar for coding standards, software design and delivery process.
  • Influence and help set tribe-wide vision, direction, and product improvement goals
  • Align work across multiple teams to maximise the impact for the company.
  • Who we’re looking for :

  • A clear technical and highly skilled expert in the design of large scale distributed systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of CI / CD implementation patterns and tooling
  • Good understanding of Testing tools and their integration with CI workflows
  • Thinking :

  • Promotes collaboration and communication between teams while reducing the coordination cost between teams and their dependencies
  • Acts as a multiplier by facilitating cross-learning tribe work, by shaping broad architecture or shipping major pieces / infrastructure / tools
  • Approach :

  • Proactively identifies tribe-level opportunities and issues, proposes and executes appropriate solutions to resolve them
  • Sets medium-term technical direction for the tribe / team in collaboration with their peers and leaders to focus on areas that need attention or improvement
  • Actively helps Engineers to make design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes and reduces dependencies between teams and services.
  • Trains them in the technical interviewing process and evaluation of candidates.
