What are the ongoing responsibilities of aBusiness Analyst?

The GIMSBusiness Analyst (BA) provides a wide range of services in support ofInvestment Management groups, Trading, and Investment Compliance.

The BA ensures the crucial trade andcompliance required data are available and accurate to be able to enter anorder in the system and ship to trading.

The BA is responsible in logging and resolving any data, functionality,and / or system issues reported, track issues for further trend analysis andidentify root cause and provide proposed resolutions and recommendations.

The BA acts as liaison andserves as a point of contact with FTS-Investment Operations, Fund Accounting, IMDSTechnology teams, and other support groups to ensure all trade transactions areentered and processed timely and correctly.

In addition, the BA analyzes and documents the existing businessworkflow, prepares future business workflow recommendation, prepares new systemfunctionality including sourcing new data, engaging technical resources to reviewthe existing and new business workflow, conducting system testing to validatethe change that will fix the issue and provides system sign-off forimplementation in production.

The BAprovides training to the business as needed.

  • Answer Charles River incoming inquiries from Portfolio Managers,Traders, Global Investment Advisers Compliance, and Franklin TempletonTechnologies on a timely manner.
  • Ensure the timely load of AP Order files as well as the PLF and PCFcreation in Liberty.
  • Monitor timely and successful load of orders from Liberty to CharlesRiver during order burst.
  • Liaise and work with the back office teams on any data, order or tradeissues.
  • Ensure that errors are properly communicated to the appropriateoperational groups from the workflow monitor.
  • Track and identify trends for review with operational groups to identifyroot cause, propose resolution, provide recommendations, conduct system testingto validate the fixes prior to implementing changes.
  • Partner with technical groups to monitor, troubleshoot and resolve errorsfrom any system interfaces with the investment management system.
  • Provide system trainingas required.
  • Provide content management in CharlesRiver and Liberty from different AccountingSystems, OneTIS, FactSet, Bloomberg,MSCI and other data vendors as required.
  • Research, analyze and solve problemsrelated to Charles River and Liberty data and any data services or system setupand assess the impact to business groups.
  • Maintain control procedures and performdata audit as necessary in order to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data.
  • Track, identify trends, and engage theappropriate supports and vendors to resolve issues.
  • Partner with GIMSSenior Business Analyst to address content discrepancies and follow-up withoperations groups, technologies, and vendors until issues are resolved.
  • Systemenhancement and implementation

  • Gathers, documents, analyzes and reviewsbusiness / system requirements from investment management professionals
  • Evaluates / proposes / designs / acquires systems andapplications for meeting business needs
  • Reviews data analysis for system conversions
  • Reviews and / or creates test plans and testscenarios
  • Performs user acceptance testing for newsystems and / or enhancements for existing systems
  • Develops user guide and training materials
  • Conducts user training based on the materialsdeveloped
  • Creates procedures for production support andtroubleshooting guide
  • Reports and tracks issues until resolved
  • Coordinates / communicates withend users and business partnersWorkflow analysis andreview
  • Keep a current understanding of the appropriategroup workflows (Investment Management, Trading, Operations, and Compliance)and ensure that changes are appropriately reflected in Charles River andLiberty.
  • Participate in any new fund launching oraccount onboarding.
  • Document and maintain business workflows and processes.
  • Document, upkeep and update workflow and systemprocesses and procedures.
  • Manage the development, testing, andimplementation of modification and enhancements to the systems.
  • Communicate tothe team as well as the other business groups who will be impacted with any newprocesses or enhancements User and Group setup and maintenance :
  • Coordinate with FTT for completion of new user setup for the CharlesRiver and OneTIS system ID.
  • Create new Charles River user access including setup of system privileges,system views, and group access.
  • Provide new user training.
  • Add and maintain user and group templates.
  • Setup and maintain Manager Workbench Profiles, Blotter layout and LayoutDesigns.
  • Ensure accurate user and group privilegesand access.
  • Delete or inactivate user as necessary.
  • What qualifications would make someone be successful?


    Four year college degree in business-relatedfield or equivalent experience.

    1-3 yrs experience in Investment Management andOperations.

    Basic experience on relational databases andadministration of systems.


    Ability to work in high pressure and fast paceenvironment.

    Ability to adjust the priority of assignments.

    Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    Good written and oral communication.

    Basic knowledge of financial markets, standardasset classes and various security types.


    Strong analytical skills, ability to resolvesimple and complex issues quickly and accurately




    Experience or basic knowledge on Charles River

    Experience or basic knowledge of the securitytypes

    Experience or basic knowledge of accountingsystem


    Typically requires long periods ofsitting and sometimes standing

    Must be able to work at a computer for extendedperiods of time


    Potential travel to client sites for visits,observation and training.

    Attend conferences as needed
