What is the Global Fund Tax Department responsible for?

The Global Fund Tax Department of Franklin Templeton is responsible for managing the tax compliance and tax planning for all Franklin Templeton funds and products globally.

The department consists of teams located in the US, Canada, Australia and different European locations including Edinburgh, Luxembourg and Poznan.

The Senior Fund Tax Consultant will be involved in providing tax advisory and tax compliance services relating to cross border taxes to all of Franklin’s investment funds domiciled globally as well as providing tax support in relation to fund products and investors situated in the EMEA region.

The Senior Fund Tax Consultant is required to work closely with staff in other business units (e.g. Fund Accounting, Reporting, Investment Operations, etc.

to ensure departmental commitments and deadlines are met.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of Senior Fund Tax Consultant?

  • Tax analysis and research in relation to withholding and capital gains taxes in the jurisdictions where the funds’ portfolio investments are situated, including tax treaty provisions applicable to the funds
  • Ensuring that all tax compliance requirements are identified and fulfilled in relation to tax payments and tax return filings and that all tax-
  • related tasks are performed in accordance with the laws

  • Reviewing of various tax accounting accrual calculations, tax payments, tax returns and other deliverables from the Global Fund Tax Department
  • Providing tax assistance to other business units
  • Assisting with identification of tax law changes impacting the funds
  • Ensuring that fund tax procedures are followed and updated as necessary
  • Performing research on tax matters as assigned by the Tax Manager
  • Responding to queries raised by the tax authorities
  • What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?

  • A minimum of 3 years of tax experience in a public accounting firm or in an industry position with exposure to the issues of the taxation of investment funds, securities and other financial instruments and transactions, ideally with a focus on international taxation
  • A university degree in law, accounting, taxation or in a related field (e.g. Business Administration, Economics) with a substantial concentration in tax
  • Fluency in English (written & spoken)
  • Good computer skills (MS Office applications, especially Excel)
  • Strong technical research, analysis and writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to present complex tax issues in a succinct and understandable manner
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under time pressure
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong motivation regarding self-development
